The Lange outsize date is the first exceptionally large and thus conveniently legible date display ever developed for mechanical wristwatches. It consists of two separate display discs that provide
a date display about three times larger than that of conventional watches.

Each date disc has its own programme wheel with a specially configured toothing pattern that controls the correct advance of the disc. A complicated calendar mechanism with 66 individual parts assures that the 31st day is not followed by the 32nd day, but
instead automatically by the 1st day of the next month.
