THE UTMOST IN PRECISION – A MATTER OF VIRTUOSITY.

The DATOGRAPH represents a milestone in horological artistry. An enormous amount of artisanal effort is invested in its completion. The movement of this timepiece was newly developed from the bottom up. Apart from a highly complex chronograph mechanism, it also features Lange’s patented outsize date. This contributes the first part, the chronograph the second part of the name DATOGRAPH.

The components of the movement are precision-adjusted by hand until they interact in perfect harmony. The chronograph mechanism is particularly demanding in this respect: every lever controlled by the column wheel must be accurately calibrated with the functional surfaces of the next one. At the same time, the effect of each intervention on the mechanism as a whole must be taken into consideration. If only one lever has too much play, this could have a negative impact on the flow of power.

It takes in-depth experience, great virtuosity, and the constant verification of all adjustments to assure that the end result is a precise and smoothly functioning movement with as many as 556 parts. This process can easily require several months of work.
