THE FINISHING TOUCHES TO A MICROMECHANICAL MASTERPIECE.

On longer trips, a traveller usually has enough time to admire the magnificent cosmos inside the LANGE 1 TIME ZONE through the sapphire-crystal back: The hand-finished calibre L031.1 manufacture movement. In the typical Lange fashion, the three-quarter plate made of untreated German silver is decorated with Glashütte ribbing. All edges in the movement are chamfered and polished, and even the surfaces that ordinarily remain concealed to the eye of the beholder are meticulously finished. A total of 54 synthetic ruby jewel bearings reduce mechanical friction in the movement to a minimum. Four of them are held in precious gold chatons that are secured with blued screws.

TYPICALLY LANGE: A CLEVER TIME-ZONE MECHANISM.

The wheel train that drives the zone time indications is easily visible above the three-quarter plate. Concealed beneath it, however, is the 67-part zone-time and city-ring setting and adjustment mechanism. It allows the hour hand of the zone-time dial to be stopped so that home time and zone time can be conveniently re-synchronised if necessary.

GLOBALLY USEFUL: AMPLE POWER RESERVE AND PRECISION. .

The manually wound movement of the LANGE 1 TIME ZONE has a stop-seconds feature that is activated when the crown is pulled, and a patented twin-disc mechanism for the display of the outsize date. Thanks to its rare twin mainspring barrels, the watch has a power reserve of 72 hours. A screw balance with a Nivarox 1 hairspring is responsible for its accuracy. The balance is shock-proofed, runs
at a rate of 21,600 semi-oscillations per hour, and is adjusted in
five positions.
