"Prix spécial du Jury" for LANGE DOUBLE SPLIT at Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève On Thursday 11 November 2004 a gala event held in the Grand Théâtre in Geneva marked the "4ème Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève". At this ceremony, which is probably the most important Swiss awards event in the world of watchmaking, a prize was awarded for the first time to A. Lange & Söhne. Founder of the firm Walter Lange and Managing Directors Fabian Krone and Hartmut Knothe received the special prize awarded to the LANGE DOUBLE SPLIT by an independent jury of famous international horological experts.
The LANGE DOUBLE SPLIT only celebrated its much vaunted debut in April of this year at the Geneva Watch Show SIHH. For the first time in a wristwatch, this extremely complicated flyback chronograph has a double rattrapante mechanism which enables comparative time measurements of up to 30 minutes using classical mechanical methods.

Now at bookstores – Walter Lange’s biography Walter Lange, the great-grandson of Ferdinand Adolph Lange, celebrated his 80th birthday not long ago. And now, his vita – entitled “When Time Came Home” – offers in-depth insights into his childhood reminiscences, wartime memories, the post-war turmoil caused by the expropriation of his family’s enterprise, and the process of the manufactory’s revival after Germany was reunited.

| Lange's „Watch Horse“ is erected in the centre of Dresden |
| Since August 20, 2004, Dresden, the capital of Saxony, not only has a “Golden Rider”, but also a “Watch Horse”. The Golden Rider, a larger than life-size monument of Elector Friedrich Augustus I, better known as Augustus the Strong, is one of Dresden’s most famous landmarks and has stood in the Neustädter Markt, between Hauptstraße and the Augustus Bridge, for over 250 years. The „Watch Horse“ of „A. Lange & Söhne”, modelled on Augustus the Strong’s steed, is found on the other side of the Elbe, on the corner of Altmarkt and Schloss-Straße. The sculpture is framed by the historic Dresden Residential Palace, which played an important role in the Lange story. |
