CONCORSO D’ELEGANZA VILLA D’ESTE

Passion for classics

Classics that lead the way

The Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este is considered one of the most exclusive events for rare historical vehicles. The international automobile competition, awarding the best-preserved classic cars, is held annually in May on Lake Como. A. Lange & Söhne has been involved as a partner since 2012 and will once again donate the winner’s prize for the “Best of Show” award.

When some of the most fascinating vehicles of all time arrive in Cernobbio, northern Italy, they are sure to once again stop those present in their tracks. This prestigious and important competition brings together historical automobiles and motorcycles to be admired and judged. This year, the event, jointly organised by BMW Group Classic and the Grand Hotel Villa d’Este, includes eight categories representing the entire spectrum of automotive history.

The fascination of fine automobiles and high-end timepieces

The unique atmosphere of the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este offers a worthy setting for the presentation of mechanical masterpieces. Delving deeper, one will discover that there are many parallels between mechanical timepieces and classic vehicles. A shared passion is reflected in the freedom of expression, the independence to forge new paths and the determination to make the best possible use of time.

This pioneering spirit is a recurring theme throughout the history of our manufacture. More than 175 years ago, the manufacture’s founder Ferdinand Adolph Lange realised his vision of turning the remote village of Glashütte into the centre of German precision watchmaking. After the reunification of Germany, his great-grandson, Walter Lange, perpetuated this vision by rebuilding the company of his ancestors and entering uncharted horological territories with traditional craftsmanship, continuing to aim for the ultimate.

A one-of-a-kind timepiece for the winner

A timepiece manufactured especially for the winner of the “Best of Show” category will be presented personally by Lange CEO Wilhelm Schmid at the awards ceremony on the last day of the event. The hand-engraved Concorso coat of arms on the hinged cuvette makes the watch one of a kind. “Like the works of art on wheels exhibited here, the timepiece combines classic design with virtuoso mechanics,” explains Wilhelm Schmid. “It is a token of our admiration for automotive works of art that were way ahead of their time, and for their owners, who take care of them with a passion to preserve the timeless elegance of the mechanics.”
