Unique vintage cars and Glashütte watchmaking artistry on London’s doorstep
From 30 August to 1 September 2024, the Concours of Elegance will take place in the stunning grounds of Hampton Court Palace near London and will once again furnish A. Lange & Söhne with a fitting stage for exhibiting consummate masterpieces of Glashütte watchmaking artistry. This year, the spotlight will be turned on select chronographs, in particular on the DATOGRAPH UP/DOWN “Hampton Court Edition”. On 9 November 2024, this unique timepiece featuring an engraved hinged cuvette will be auctioned in Geneva by the renowned auctioneer Phillips in Association with Bacs & Russo in support of The Prince’s Trust.
A weekend dedicated to mechanical elegance:
Once again, the magnificent gardens of Hampton Court Palace will offer an impressive setting for this year’s Concours of Elegance to display spectacular vintage cars. The prestigious old-timer competition, sponsored by A. Lange & Söhne since 2018, will enthral numerous spectators with about 60 rare and valuable works of art on wheels, some of which to be seen in Great Britain for the very first time. Ceremonial highlight of the event will be the presentation of the “Best-of-Show” Award on Friday.
A unique piece for The Prince’s Trust
But not only the history of the automobile in all its diversity can be experienced at close range – with a selection of exclusive manufacture chronographs, A. Lange & Söhne adds a further captivating facet to the event: the historical connection between timekeeping and motorsports. Given their technical and aesthetic finesse, chronographs have been among the manufacture’s flagships since the DATOGRAPH was launched 25 years ago. The DATOGRAPH UP/DOWN “Hampton Court Edition” represents the focal point of A. Lange & Söhne’s presence at this year’s Concours, a unique chronograph with a flyback function and precisely jumping minute counter, especially crafted for this occasion.

“Being part of the Concours of Elegance at Hampton Court Palace has become a special tradition for us, underscoring our passion for groundbreaking engineering and artisanship, as well as its significance for future generations,” says Wilhelm Schmid, A. Lange & Söhne CEO. “The masterpieces on wheels showcased here are born from the same pursuit of precision, originality and perfection as was once the case with the DATOGRAPH. As our very first proprietary chronograph movement since the relaunch of the manufacture, it has been an expressive symbol of our ambition to never stand still for 25 years. Our commitment to The Prince’s Trust also stems from this philosophy. We hope that as many people as possible will take part in the auctioning of the DATOGRAPH UP/DOWN “Hampton Court Edition” and thus support the important work of the Trust.”
