1815 RATTRAPANTE

1815 family

Short-time measurement achieved through technical excellence

The 1815 RATTRAPANTE is the first pure split-seconds chronograph from A. Lange & Söhne. The elegant timepiece with its classic design features a stopwatch function with additive time measurements up to 30 minutes, as well as a split-time function with comparative time measurements up to 60 seconds. Despite the technical complexity of the manually wound calibre L101.2, it was possible to limit the case height to 12.6 millimetres and the diameter to 41.2 millimetres. Limited to 200 pieces in platinum and 100 pieces in honey gold, the timepiece is available exclusively at Lange boutiques.

DRIVEN BY OUR OWN VALUES

Split-seconds chronograph

The first pure split-seconds chronograph designed by our manufacture features a complex mechanism. Like the tourbillon or perpetual calendar, it’s one of the grand complications, and, with this model, our watchmakers once again demonstrate their expertise in the field of short-time measurement. It can be used to record any number of split times in a single minute.

The two stopwatch hands that are placed one on top of the other, the chrono seconds hand and the rattrapante seconds hand all start simultaneously when the button at 2 o'clock is pressed. The rattrapante seconds hand can be stopped separately as often as desired and also synchronised again with the chrono seconds hand.

Complex finishings

Like each of our movements, the 1815 RATTRAPANTE calibre is assembled twice by hand and intricately finished following the tradition of Ferdinand Adolph Lange. In addition to bridges and cocks made of untreated German silver, the manufacture calibre L101.2 also features a screw balance, screwed gold chatons and a hand-engraved balance cock.

The tops of the moving parts are decorated with straight graining and the surrounding bevels are set at an angle. The chamfering of the angled inner corners is particularly challenging and is therefore only carried out by hand by experienced finisseurs.

Functional elegance

A precious platinum case and an argenté-coloured dial complement the mechanical elegance of the calibre L101.2. The blued hands contrast with the bright silver tones, ensuring excellent readability. In keeping with this watch family’s traditional design feature, the 1815 RATTRAPANTE carries the rail-track minute scale and distinctive Arabic numerals.

Movement L101.2

The movement is finished to the highest standards, as is typical for Lange. It was developed specifically for this timepiece in the Lange manufacture - a rarity in the field of mechanical split-seconds chronographs. The development of movements within the company’s own manufacture symbolises the drive that enables A. Lange & Söhne to follow its own path. This was a prerequisite for the unique design of the watch. Instead of the traditional horizontal positioning of the small second and minute counters at 3 and 9 o'clock, these two displays are placed vertically at 12 and 6 o'clock.
