Unmistakeable design – self-winding movement
The LANGE 1 DAYMATIC is the self-winding counterpart of the most renowned A. Lange & Söhne watch – the LANGE 1. Here, the shared distinctive characteristic, the asymmetric dial design, is a mirror-image of the original and features a retrograde day-of-week display that harmoniously complements the typical Lange outsize date.
For the first time, the stylish classic with a high recognition value is presented with a case in 750 honey gold (HONEYGOLD®). In this special edition limited to 250 pieces, the warm lustre of the gold alloy, exclusive to the manufacture, combined with the brown dial made of 925 silver endows the watch with a particularly refined personality.
Familiar face ‒ mirrored design
At first glance, the LANGE 1 DAYMATIC is unmistakeably a LANGE 1 yet offers a new perspective on the style-defining design that was awarded multiple prizes. The dial configuration of the manually wound LANGE 1 graces the LANGE 1 DAYMATIC as well, but it is a mirror image of the original: the hour and minute display is positioned on the right-hand side of the dial, the subsidiary seconds dial and the outsize date on the left.
Subtly reworked, the slender bezel gives the current 750 honey-gold version its elegant air of lightness. Moreover, the dial offers a variety of expressive details, such as, for instance, the slightly recessed hour and minute circle that intensifies the three-dimensional effect of the dial. The outsize date is depicted in white numerals against a brown background and perfectly matches the dial colour.
Contrary to the classic manually wound LANGE 1, the LANGE 1 DAYMATIC is not equipped with a power-reserve indicator but with a retrograde day-of-week display on the left periphery of the dial. It is not a conventional circular display: in increments of one day, the hand moves upwards from Monday to Sunday, and subsequently jumps down again to the beginning of the week. This calendar function complements the characteristic outsize date and simultaneously underscores the individuality of the timepiece. Conveniently, the date and day-of-week display can be advanced separately.
Balanced design – sophisticated architecture
The balanced design and artisanal finish of the LANGE 1 DAYMATIC extend into the interior of the watch where its heart, the aesthetically appealing self-winding manufacture calibre L021.1, beats reliably.
Efficient winding and the delivery of constant force are assured by a large central rotor extending across the entire diameter of the movement. Its central segment in 21-carat gold (875) is embossed with the “A. Lange & Söhne” signature and its centrifugal mass is made of 950 platinum. When fully wound, a power reserve of 50 hours becomes available.
The four-armed spoke design cushions the heavy rotor in the case of shocks and protects the movement against high strain. The colourful composition of warm-hued gold, cool-toned platinum and cornflower-blue screws makes the rotor an eye-catching focal point of technical elegance.
The individual architecture of the manufacture calibre is inspired by tradition and simultaneously assures superb precision with a view to adjustment and assembly. This includes, in particular, the four plates that can be assembled separately: the rotor bridge, the train bridge, the day-of-week bridge and the escape-wheel and fourth-wheel cock ‒ visually replicating the traditional three-quarter plate in the fully assembled movement. Their surfaces are adorned with Glashütte ribbing: the decoration technique is executed in the exact same direction across all plates, without offset, a detail that can only be discovered upon close inspection of the manufacture movement.
Movement L021.1
Further typical Lange quality hallmarks of the dedicated movement include an indexless oscillation system featuring a large balance wheel with eccentric poising weights, and a balance spring developed and crafted in-house that beats at a frequency of 21,600 semi-oscillations per hour.
As is the case with all Lange calibres, the 426-part L021.1 movement is assembled twice and endowed with many traditional elements. The elaborate finish of all components complies with the manufacture’s strictest standards regarding artisanal perfection. Traditional features such as the hand-engraved balance cock, Glashütte ribbing and seven screwed gold chatons provide fascinating highlights that can be admired through the sapphire-crystal caseback.
